I really HATE that term....

"Furry"....ick. Horrid name. I miss the days when they were just called "cartoon characters".....

Of course; some kinds of art DESERVE an unpleasant name....

And s'mother doodles:

I've been a fan of After the Bomb, an "antho" role playing game, for a long time and one time when I was running a demo at a local game shop one of the people in the store came over to check it out and immediatly turned their nose up and said something to the effect of, 'I don't care for FURRY games.'

No amount of explaining could get the person to change their view that if there were animals in the game it was "furry"....

*hate*

That's a good example of too furry....I think at that point it just becomes a talking animal, really. Kinda like Donkey from Shrek, or any number of Disney characters. Sure, they're intellegent (to a point >>; ), but there's nothing anthropomorphic involved.

I agree to an extent I suppose, but it really depends on what definitions you have come to use.

I, personally, have come to regard 'anthropomorphic' as a general term for humans with animal traits or animals with human traits, such as talking. 'Furry' on the other hand, I consider to be the sweet spot between the two where both traits are apparent and in sync with one another (as defined by the user).

I know this to be wrong, but it’s only a personal opinion so I don’t feel the need to change it anytime soon.

Ah! But in the old days they weren't sexy.

Here's an example what makes the term "furry" so degrading to "Anthros"...

That's the real problem. Any time you mix sex into anything, everyone involved turns into a drama queen.

Furry? Cute.
Anthro? Whatever you want to call it, dude.
Furries / anthros having sex? BURN IT NOW AND SALT THE SOIL FROM WHICH IT SPRANG!

Yeah, that goes for farms, even. People might know somewhere in the back of their mind that their dinner steaks don't quite grow on trees, but if they see two bovines f*cking, they'll demand the city commission raze the whole ranch to the ground and build a socially acceptable park in its place.

*sigh*
It depresses me to know how badly some people have degraded certain aspects of our society, furries/anthros being in my top 10 (not that they where that pure to begin with); although over indulgence in sex is often at fault for this, as well as a great deal of other current problems.

Again, I am only speaking for myself.

Worst thing about the internet...You KNOW someone's getting off to the cat in lingerie x.x

I like to refer to this catgirl chart:

Note that "A cat is fine too..." is a popular internet meme from 4chan, thus 100% cat = fine too.

Also I agree "anthro" is a good term until you exceed 70%, or wear a fursuit.

I think its a tad sad that your definition of 'furry' is sexual. The difference between what is just anthro and what is furry is that 'furry' is a subculture, not just a thing. Sex is not a prerequisite to being a furry. Just like any other group of people, after a critical mass there WILL be a sexual side, no matter what, its unavoidable. The anime fandom has its sexual side, as does trekkies etc etc etc. The thing you have to remember is in none including furrys is it what defines the fandom.

I find it rediculious that with the internet at your fingertips so many are quick to judge without digging deeper. Most of the post here would support the arguement few of you honestly know what you are talking about.
